Deacon’s Prayer: Prayer of the Saints

Heavenly father we give thanks to you, oh Lord

for the Mercy & Grace that you show your children

each and everyday. We know that those

who believe are saved through your son Jesus

the Christ who is the righteousness of you oh

God.

Help us to be more like your son Jesus, teach us

to love all people with an open heart, for we

must do the same that was done for us. Help

us to see sinners as saints, father we know now

that we are not righteous in ourselves but we

are saved by the blood of your son who died so

thatwe could be reconciled unto you, byway of

this supreme sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Bless

every believer who bears the marks of a resurrected

life for those who have yet to come will

knowthat they to can be saved,We all continue

to live under the dispensation of your grace

some not knowing the price that was paid to

free them and us from sin and death. Teach us

oh Lord to share the good news with all who

will listen.

Bless this church family and its Leadership Rev.

Henry T. Simmons and our first Lady Gail Simmons

& family, bless our Deacons, Trustees Ushers

and all who serve in your house. Bless and

keep our Children, our Community, State, Country

and ourWorld, keep us safe during these uncertain

times. Bless our soldiers fighting in Iraq

keep them safe by night and day. Bless all that

concerns us oh Lord, for we can do nothing

without you but we can do all things with you.

We thank you, we bless you, we magnify you,

and we praise you, in Jesus name. Amen

And the God of all

grace, who called

you to his eternal

glory in Christ, after

you have suffered a

little while, will himself

restore you and

make you strong,

firm and steadfast

Psalm 146

1

Praise the Lord.

2

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

I will praise the Lord all my life;

in mortal men, who cannot save.

Do not put your trust in princes,

ground;

on that very day their plans come to nothing.

When their spirit departs, they return to the

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,

the sea, and everything in them—

the Lord, who remains faithful forever.

the Maker of heaven and earth,

and gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets prisoners free,

He upholds the cause of the oppressed

8

the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,

the Lord loves the righteous.

the Lord gives sight to the blind,

and sustains the fatherless and the widow,

but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

The Lord watches over the alien

your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.

The Lord reigns forever,

PSALM 146: Lifelong Praise

The psalmist will praise God all his life (145:1–4), first because

God is Creator (vv. 5–6) and then because God is

so gracious to the needy (vv. 7–9). God reigns (v. 10).

Key concepts. Praise Psalms 140-145. Creation Isaiah 40.

Trust in princes? (146:3) This psalm was most meaningful

to Martin Luther who was forced, because of an emperor’s

ban, to rely on rulers of German principalities to stand for

the Protestant faith. After much soul-searching, he realized

that he need not rely on them, or worry, for his “help

[was] the God of Jacob” (v. 5).

Praise the Lord, O my soul.

Psalm 118 (NIV)

1Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

2Let Israel say: "His love endures forever."

3Let the house of Aaron say: "His love endures forever."

4Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever."

5In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free.

6The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

7The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.

8It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

9It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

10All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off.

11They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off.

12They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off.

13I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me.

14The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

15Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!

16The LORD’s right hand is lifted high; the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!"

17I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.

18The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death.

19Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD.

20This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter.

21I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.

22The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;

23the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

24This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success.

26Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you.

27The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar.

28You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you.

29Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

In response to the call to acknowledge the Lord’s goodness the nation Israel, the priests, and all the worshipers declared that His loyal love is everlasting. In summary fashion the psalmist announced that the LORD delivered him from distress. On the basis of this he reminded the people that since the LORD was with him, he need not fear what others might do to him. And because the LORD was his Helper he could be sure of triumph. Therefore the people too could be sure that it is better to turn to the LORD than to trust in human resources.

The psalmist then delineated how the LORD gave him confidence in the midst of his enemies. Surrounded by enemies who tried to destroy him, he was able to triumph. He joyfully praised the LORD as his Strength and his Salvation.

Deacon’s Prayer:

Dear God: As we start a new year we look back and thank you. Thanks you for giving us everything we know, love, and cherish. Thank you for the hope we know in our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thank for providing food, clothing shelter, comfort, and love. Thanks you for the health we enjoy and the safety we need. Thank you for listening to and answering our prayers. Thank you for your Church and the saints in it that sustains us. Thank you for the word in the form of the Bible that speaks to us in every situation. Thank you for your grace and mercy which is all we need.

Help us God to come closer to you, to trust you completely and live in a way that honors and glorifies your holy name. Strengthen our faith and help ius to live boldy in spirit.

Thank you for all you have done and all you will do.

In Jesus name. Amen.

Thank you Rev Simmons and the congregation of St Alban Church for embracing my dear cousin Regina Campbell.  she loved her church very much and more importantly, she loved the Lord with all of her heart.  Although words cannot express the pain I feel at this time, I find comfort in knowing that she is with Jesus.

Subject:  A Prayer for us all Thank the Lord!

   Thank You Lord
Dear heavenly father hear our prayer, O Lord; give ear to our partitions. In your faithfulness You will answer us, because of Your righteousness. You do not judge us, Your sons, for in Your sight no person is justified or righteous. The enemy has persecuted and pursued us; but he cannot prevail. He has tried to crush our lives into the earth and deceive us into a path of unrighteousness and a feeling of defeat, but Your written and spoken Words sustains us. So our spirit refuses to be over taken. Our hearts, our spirit within, tries to grow weak, but it will not reject Your truth O Lord. Please remember to remind us of all You have done for us. It was not our doing but Yours alone that made the Supreme sacrifice of your son Jesus the Christ on the cross. We lift our hands in total praise to You we fast and pray. For you delivered us from all our sins and troubles. We run to You for protection. Hide us O Lord behind the cross, remind us each day, that it is because of your grace and mercy, that we who believe in you, have hope not only for today, but we also have hope for tomorrow we love you and thank you father.
                                  Amen…

Brothers take a moment to read Psalm 117
May the Lord continue to give us strength and peace, be healed; Mind Body and Soul, we can be so many things & one is that we be wise in the counsel of the Holy Spirit continue to listen to his advice, man’s plans will never exceed God’s plans.

Subject:  To The Brother of the Nehemiah Project who was he

Who was Nehemiah?

Or,   for that matter, Obadiah, Ezra, Haggai, and Habakkuk? What books of the bible are considered book of the Law? Did you know that   are books of poetry…in the bible?
In a few minutes we can increase our knowledge of the most famous book of all time. Never heard of Nehemiah?

Never again! Because he is you and I, and we are called to a similar mission just like Nehemiah, the cupbearer.

A cup-bearer was an officer of high rank in royal courts, whose duty it was to serve the drinks at the royal table. On account of the constant fear of plots and intrigues, a person must be regarded as thoroughly trustworthy to hold this position. He must guard against poison in the king's cup, and was sometimes required to swallow some of the wine before serving it. His confidential relations with the king often gave him a position of great influence. The position of cup bearer is greatly valued and given to only a select few throughout history. Qualifications for the job were not held lightly but of high esteem valued for their beauty and even more for their modesty, industriousness and courage

Ezra is named for Ezra, the priest and scribe, who taught the people and helped finish the temple. Ezra continues the story of the Jewish people that was told in the books of Chronicles. The Jewish people had been taken into captivity and the book tells of their being allowed by Cyrus, king of Persia, to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and worship God as they had been taught.

Nehemiah tells more of the story told in Ezra of the captive people who went back to Jerusalem Nehemiah begins about eleven years after the story of Ezra ends. It tells of Nehemiah, cupbearer to the king of Persia, who heard from a visitor from Jerusalem that the wall of the city was broken down and the people were miserable and in danger from their enemies. Nehemiah, with the help of the king, went back to Jerusalem and rebuilt the wall and taught the people to obey the laws that some of them had broken.

I  am writing the Antoinette Brown Women: Finding Voice web book for the UCC. The Rev. Marilyn Adams Moore, one of the Antoinette Brown Award recipients, served St. Alban's as assistant minister in the 1980s until 1988. I am writing her chapter now and would like to speak with the senior minister at that time. Geoffrey Black thought the minister had moved to Florida. If you will give me the name and contact information, I will be grateful. It  is fine for you to email to that minister my contact information.

Should anyone at St. Alban's who remembers those years with Rev. Moore wish to contact me to visit about her ministry, I would be delighted.

Thank you.
